My Little Bakery: A Change of Plans

Well, getting an Orlando Business Tax Receipt has turned out to be much harder than I imagined.

In my last bakery post, I was getting the setup together, checking the numbers, and hoping everything would be ready for the festival. Now, I’ve decided to let go of that plan for my little bakery.

I’m disappointed, of course. But I’m okay with changing direction. I’m planning to take the bakery idea to Facebook and figure out my next steps there. I still want to bake and share what I make, even if this first attempt hasn’t worked out the way I hoped.

The harder part: feeling unheard

Speaking of the Business Tax Receipt, I’ve also been talking about it with the Orlando Chinese Association (OCA) team. My understanding was that vendors selling things would need one, and that was what I had been telling the team.

I felt that my answer wasn’t welcome. The conversation kept coming back to whether I was mistaken, and I found that frustrating.

Sometimes, it feels like people just can’t take no for an answer. When the answer isn’t what they want to hear, the focus shifts to whether I explained it clearly enough. From my side, it felt like I was being blamed for the way I delivered the information.

I can accept questions and different interpretations. What wears me down is feeling that I’m repeating myself without being heard.

Moving forward

So, that’s where things stand: a change of plans for my little bakery, and some frustration with the conversations around it.

For now, I’m letting go of the festival bakery plan and putting my energy into what comes next. The Facebook idea is still ahead of me. We’ll see where it goes.
